And the first post is here!! I am the Guy on Shorts, a blogger and special fan of the Super Smash Bros series. Since I am running out of things to unlock in the GCN release, I have decided to open up this guide that will give info, tips, and funny stuff on Smash Bros Melee.
I want to start out with some good tips for unlocking stuff. Regarding the VS. Match accumulation, this is what I do: have your ever seen a rule that says "Handicap" on the Vs Mode? It modifies the advantage (the ability to stay put without flying off the stage: the weight, if you will) one character has over another. Switch yours to 9 and switch your opponent's to 1, lower the stock value to 1, and to spice it up, why not switch the damage ratio up to 2 (equals to 200% attack power) Believe me, it's Sudden Death Mode, only that in here your matches count (Special Melee matches are never recorded)
To rack up play time, you might want to start a 2P game with 1 stock in a stage where absolutely nothing happens (like the Temple or Fountain of Dreams stages) and simply leave it there for the night (or longer if you want Mewtwo SOOO BADLY) you can get 10-13 hours average easy in there. But what if I don't have two controllers, you ask? Well, leave a VS Match on with your Human player on and one CP. Leave it there for the night, it's just the same.
You wan to beat the Classic/Adventure modes to unlock characters, but don't want to waste your energy on the Normal difficulty to get the Master Hand/Giga Bowser trophies by the way? Just wait for the appropriate time. Train yourself through the Very Easy and Easy difficulties, to save time and points. Yeah, it may sound kinda wuss, but Very Easy is not "Baby" easy. And remember, the losses at the hands of the Onett stage Nesses in Adv. Mode will be counted on Misc. Records. EVERYTIME.
Event Matches!! Who hasn't shaken his fists in fury at the unthinkable plot devices used in event matches?! Kill Mr. Falcon in seven seconds!! The last Yoshi Egg is in danger!! Kill Nana, but NOT POPO!! PSI the interplanetary characters to oblivion!! KO two invisible foes!! Destroy the ultimate evils (Giga Bowser, Mewtwo, and Ganondorf) without a scratch!!
Sheesh, I'd prefer to save the hardest ones for when I have enough experience and unlocked most characters (although in some cases like events 29 and 37 we benefit from finishing these on one piece)
